Dear friends, our amazing team of engineers will be in Fairbanks Alaska, the project consist in removing an old Modicon PLC system that controlled the Cummins Powercommand tied to the utility, the communication to the controllers was via Lonworks.
The system installed here in Fairbanks, included, four Onan Cummins Powercommand PCC 3100, one Modicon PLC System Modbus plus to communicate with the Switchgears and with an obsolete Lonworks card to connect with the generators, plus an HMI.
The new system retrofit will include converters from lonworks to Modbus, PLC, HMI and Proficy integration, we will also integrate all of the system switchgears with Prosoft gateways.
This cost effective solution will provide added value to the equipment and will give options for control, trending, historians and many other options to the final retrofit. The system is being replaced, new PLC is installed with a 15″ HMI for local control and a new ethernet communication is used for the remote monitoring and control in this retrofit, the customer will be able to control the units and also to read all the information in the scada system throughout the power plant.
Like every project there are challenges that will be present, we’ll keep you posted in the next couple of weeks and hopefully with some pictures of the final control panel in service.

This has been a great season for Powergen Controls, and this new year has started with great projects in hand for the engineering team.
We are glad to have been a approved on a major retrofit contract for a large Utility company in the USA.
The project consist of seven switchgears that controls multiple sources in a main-tie-main application, including, two generators that feeds the entire power plant. There are still many challenges ahead for the engineering team, but we are confident that this will be a total success.
